Snowfall Totals Near 1 Foot; More Expected Thursday For Illinois

Patchy blowing and drifting snow could cause issues for the Wednesday evening commute — after also canceling nearly 2,000 flights.

ILLINOIS — After several inches of snow for most areas — and nearly a foot in some Chicago-area towns — snowfall will start to diminish Wednesday afternoon. A winter storm warning remains in effect for DuPage, Kendall, Grundy, Will and central and southern Cook counties until 6 p.m..

Patchy blowing and drifting snow is possible in open areas, and it could reduce visibility for those traveling during the evening commute, according to the weather service.


Snow totals from Wednesday's winter weather varied across the Chicago area, with northern suburbs receiving 2 or 3 inches of snow while some southern suburbs received close to a foot of snow. Here's a look at the snowfall totals, provided by the weather service:

Snow is also possible Thursday, with new snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible, according to the weather service.

Friday and the weekend look to give a break from the snow, and temperatures will be near 20 degrees on Friday and Saturday, according to the weather service.
