Snowfall Totals: Who Got Over 9 Inches of Snow Over The Weekend?

After a snowy weekend, the Chicago area braces for the bitter cold. Wind chill values of 20 degrees below zero or colder are possible.

It was a snow-filled weekend for the Chicago area.

The snow began to fall Saturday afternoon and, after a break on Sunday, it picked back up and continued into Sunday night. When it was all said and done, the hardest hit areas saw more than 9 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service reported the following snowfall totals as of 7:40 a.m. Monday:

While the snow has stopped, the Chicago area is now faced with bitter cold temperatures this week. Sub-zero conditions are possible at times from midweek on. Wednesday night through Thursday night in particular appears to be the coldest period of the upcoming week, and the Chicago area could see wind chill values of 20 degrees below zero or colder each night before temps warm slightly on Friday.

Outside of a few flurries at times, no significant precipitation is expected until late this week and into next weekend.

Here is more detailed look at this week’s forecast:

  • MONDAY: Partly sunny. Highs in the low to mid 20s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
  • TUESDAY: Partly sunny in the morning then clearing. Highs 15 to 19. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
  • WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Blustery. Highs 12 to 16. Wind chills as low as 5 below to 15 below zero. West winds 15 to 25 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon.
  • THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 4 to 8 above.
  • FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow. Highs in the lower 20s.
