"Songs From The Heart" Album For Children By Frieda Grizzi Zeidel

Frieda Grizzi Zeidel helps children love music with her "Songs From The Heart" album on CD.

Frieda Grizzi Zeidel has a story to tell and it's all about helping children. Her album "Songs From The Heart" is a labor of love that took her five years to complete.

Frieda says that her inspiration came from a girl, Joyce, who was the young daughter of a teacher, Gayle, that Frieda knew decades ago in high school on the northwest side.

Frieda says: "I got to know Gayle then and now she and I have been friends for many years. She and her husband had two children and at a very very young age, Joyce started to show signs of a very serious problem. By the age of six she developed an inoperable brain tumor. It wasn’t cancerous, but being inoperable, in the brain and it’s placement was still very serious. It meant many surgeries, radiation, stunting of growth, shunts and side effects like seizures, and visual loss. But through it all Joyce was always a trooper and every day greeted everyone with a smile. She’s always a ray of sunshine, nothing dims her sparkle. She loves music so I told her that this was for her and asked if she would like to help me begin work on the art for the cover and of course she was very excited."

Frieda also says the she was given great assistance by Rick Barnes at Rax Trax in Chicago. Then she adds: "This was my first time in a recording studio and it was quite the educational experience. I was assigned to two young brilliant creators, Ben and Noam. Between them both, my CD sounded as if I had an actual orchestra behind me while I sang each song. They made it look so easy and it became a very fun experience I hope to do again for the children."

Frieda might sound like a singer trying to sell her album, and she has sold some, but the compassionate side of her and her husband, Jim, comes first: "To know that my voice is making a difference, small as it may be, to so many children around the world, sets my heart at ease. So far we are close to 3800 CDs donated worldwide."

Frieda is often asked about whatever happened to young Joyce, that little girl from so many years ago, and the answer is: "She will be 40 this year!"
