3 Killed In I-290 Wrong Way Crash: Illinois State Police

A motorist driving the wrong way on I-290 hit another car at around 5 a.m. Saturday, killing both drivers and a passenger, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — Three were killed in a New Year's Day pre-dawn crash on I-290, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago.

A wrong-way driver struck another car just after 5 a.m. on the westbound part of the highway near Mannheim Road, state police said.

State police said in an email to Patch that the wrong-way driver, who was alone in the car, was killed. Both the driver and passenger in the vehicle that was hit were killed.
