Sunshine and 70s Before Storms Hit by Mid-Week for Chicago Area

A look at the weather forecast for the Chicago area for the coming week.

Sunny skies and warm temperatures are expected as the work week kicks off for the Chicago area. But by mid-week, area residents could see showers and thunderstorms enter the picture.

On Monday and Tuesday, portions of the Chicago area can expect high temps reaching into the mid-70s. The chance for showers and thunderstorms should increase over the area Tuesday night into Wednesday as a cold front approaches and eventually moves through the area, according to the National Weather Service.

There is also a chance for thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Here is a more detailed look at the forecast for the coming days:

  • Sunday Night: Clear. Lows around 40. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Monday: Sunny. Highs in the lower 70s inland...but only in the lower 60s near the lake. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.
  • Monday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 50s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Tuesday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 70s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
  • Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the upper 50s. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
  • Wednesday: Cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then showers likely and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs around 70. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
  • Wednesday Night: Cloudy. Showers likely in the evening, then a chance of showers after midnight. Lows in the mid 40s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
  • Thursday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the mid 50s.
  • Thursday Night And Friday: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the lower 40s. Highs in the upper 50s.
  • Friday Night: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers in the evening, then showers likely after midnight. Lows in the upper 40s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
