Temps Near 60, More Rain Possible As Some Suburban Rivers Near Flood Stage

A look at the forecast for this weekend for the Chicago area.

The Chicago area should expect a warm-up for the weekend and for the start of next week.

High temperatures between 38 and 48 degrees are expected on Friday for the Chicago area, while it should be even warmer on Saturday and Sunday. High temps between 47 and 57 degrees are in the forecast for Saturday, and on Sunday, temps will be only slightly lower with highs between 45 and 54 degrees.

There is a chance for rain throughout the weekend and also areas of fog expected Saturday morning. The additional rain could cause flooding for area rivers. A flood warning remains in effect for the Des Plaines River near Russell, a small town in Lake County near the Wisconsin border. As of 8:30 a.m. Friday, the river was at 6.9 feet, and flood stage is 7 feet. The river is expected to rise above the flood stage by Friday afternoon and could reach 7.5 feet by Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

There are also flood advisories in effect for the Fox River in Montgomery and for the East Branch of the DuPage River in Bolingbrook. The DuPage River had reached 18.8 feet as of Friday morning. The river’s flood stage is 19.5 feet. The river is expected to rise to 19 feet by Friday afternoon, and at 19.5 feet, weather officials said residents can expect Royce Road to flood.

  • Friday night: Cloudy with areas of drizzle and a chance of light rain. Areas of fog. Lows in the lower 40s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of measurable precipitation 30 percent.
  • Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Areas of fog in the morning. Areas of drizzle in the morning...then a slight chance of light rain in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 50s. Highs in the mid 50s inland...but only in the upper 40s near the lake. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of measurable precipitation 20 percent.
  • Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of light rain. Lows in the lower 40s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Sunday: Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of light rain in the afternoon. Highs around 50 inland...but only in the mid 40s near the lake. North winds 10 to 15 mph.
  • Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain in the evening...then a chance of light rain and light snow after midnight. Lows in the mid 30s. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
  • Monday: Mostly cloudy. Slight chance of light rain and light snow in the morning. Highs in the lower 40s. Chance of precipitation 20 percent.
