Temps in the Upper 60s Expected for Chicago Area This Week

Temperatures are expected to warm as the week goes, reaching into the upper 60s for parts of the Chicago area, before a cold front rolls through and brings cooler weather next weekend.

Mild weather is expected for the rest of the day Sunday with high temperatures nearing 60 degrees in many areas. However, breezy southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, are also expected Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will continue to top out in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees Monday through Wednesday. However, even warmer conditions are likely Thursday into Friday in advance of a strong storm system expected across the upper Midwest, according to the National Weather Service.

This could push highs into the mid to upper 60s on Thursday and Friday for the Chicago area.
A strong cold front will then move over the area sometime on Friday. A period of showers and a thunderstorm is expected.

The Chicago area should see much cooler weather next weekend in the wake of this cold front, according to the National Weather Service.

• Sunday: Sunny. Highs near 60. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Inland...gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon.
• Sunday night: Mostly clear. Lows around 40. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph.
• Monday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 50s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
• Monday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 40s in the suburbs...but in the mid 40s downtown. West winds around 5 mph.
• Tuesday: Partly cloudy in the morning then clearing. Highs in the upper 50s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Tuesday Night: Clear. Lows in the lower 40s.
• Wednesday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 50s.
• Wednesday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 40s.
• Thursday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 60s.
• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 50s.
• Friday: Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers. Highs in the mid 60s.
• Friday Night: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely in the evening... Then a chance of showers after midnight. Lows in the upper 30s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
