Tyson Popcorn Chicken Distributed to Schools in Illinois, Missouri Recalled For Unwanted Plastic

The problem was discovered after Tyson received a consumer complaint.

Tyson Foods has recalled approximately 1,148 pounds of frozen popcorn chicken products distributed to schools in Illinois and Missouri that may be contaminated with hard plastic, according to United States Department of Agriculture.

The recall was announced on Oct. 15. The frozen, ready-to-eat, whole grain popcorn chicken products were produced on Aug. 10. 2016. The USDA said the products subject to the recall have establishment number “P-1325” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

  • 35 cases of 32.79-lb. “TYSON FULLY COOKED, WHOLE GRAIN GOLDEN CRISPY POPCORN CHICKEN, CHICKEN PATTIE FRITTERS” with a case code of “70368/928” on the upper right hand side of the label.

Tyson shipped the products to a wholesale distributor in Illinois that further distributed the products to schools and food services in Missouri and Illinois.

Tyson discovered the problem after receiving a consumer complaint from a school regarding foreign material, specifically hard plastic, found inside a bag of Tyson brand whole grain popcorn chicken product.

So far, there have not been any confirmed reports of injury or illness. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who may have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. The USDA labeled the recall as a Class I recall.
