Uber Driver Sexually Assaulted, Threatened Woman: Lawsuit
The driver began groping her soon after the ride began and wouldn't allow the woman to leave the car until she gave him her number.

CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago woman who says she was sexually assaulted and accosted by an Uber driver last month is suing the company. According to a lawsuit filed Wednesday, the 30-year-old woman was groped against her will by a driver on Sept. 24 on a ride from Uptown to Logan Square.
The driver, referred to as Aleksander Doe in the lawsuit pending his identification by Uber, also allegedly forced the woman to give over her phone number and checked that it was accurate before allowing her to leave his car.
"Don't touch me," she told him, according to the suit. "Just take me home." The driver allegedly offered asked her to spend the night with him and offered her money to do so before watching her enter her apartment building.

"It's me. I want to talk to you because my account is closed," said the driver in a message allegedly left on the woman's phone. "What's [expletive] wrong with you?"
The lawsuit consists of eight counts and seeks more than $400,000 in damages from Uber, which "carelessly and negligently" failed to protect customers, and the so-far unidentified driver, who "carelessly and negligently touched the Plaintiff's leg and thigh." It argues Uber has no policy in place to warn riders of the criminal background "and/or violent propensities" of its drivers.
The woman's attorney, Bryant Greening, said the complaint will be updated to include the driver's name when it is revealed. He said he was unaware of any police report associated with the incident.
The suit was filed in Cook County Circuit Court with the case number 2017-L-010560.
