Union Delegates Will Review CPS Deal Next Week Before It Becomes New Teachers Contract

If CTU's House of Delegates recommends the tentative agreement, it then must be ratified by the union's membership.

CHICAGO, IL — The House of Delegates for the Chicago Teachers Union will meet next week to look over the tentative agreement that was reached between the union and Chicago Public Schools, averting a threatened teachers strike, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

CTU's delegates, which number around 800, are set to meet Oct. 19 to review the deal for a new teachers contract that was reached at the 11th hour Monday, the report stated. Delegates are expected to recommend approving the agreement, the report added.

But the deal doesn't become a contract until the union membership votes on it. If the House of Delegates recommends adoption, the delegates then will set a referendum and the close to 25,000 CTU educators will vote to accept or reject the proposal, the report stated.
