United Flight Makes Emergency Chicago Landing Over 'Security Issue'
Reports citing law enforcement said the Los Angeles-bound flight was diverted Wednesday due to a possible bomb threat.

CHICAGO, IL — A United Airlines flight bound for southern California made an emergency landing in Chicago on Wednesday after crew members reported a "security issue," the Federal Aviation Administration said.
United Flight 1533 departed from Newark Newark Liberty International Airport and was headed to Los Angeles International Airport when it landed at Chicago O'Hare International Airport around 7:40 a.m., according to the FAA.
The plane had 202 passengers and nine crew members on board.

When contacted by Patch, a United Airlines spokesperson said the flight was diverted due to "a potential security concern," but did not elaborate on the details of the incident.
"The flight landed safely and met local law enforcement upon arrival. Customers deplaned and we expect the flight to depart for Los Angeles later this afternoon," the spokesperson said.

According to a preliminary police report obtained by CBS Chicago, crew members found a note in the plane's bathroom stating the plane would blow up. According to CBS 2, authorities located a suspicious bag and were questioning the passenger who checked it.
Another report from ABC7 Chicago citing law enforcement also said the word "bomb" was found in one of the cabin bathrooms.
