Video Shows Street Splitting In Downtown Chicago, Halting Traffic

Rising water caused concrete in downtown Chicago to buckle, sending a pedestrian running.

CHICAGO — Monday was the wettest day since September in Chicago, according to the National Weather Service, and the water pressure is taking its toll on the city's streets. A road in downtown Chicago buckled Tuesday afternoon.

Rising water pressure caused the concrete on Jefferson Street to crack open.

A video, first posted by WGN, shows the street splitting for at least ten feet. The buckle startled a pedestrian, sending them running.
