Video Shows Uber Driver Fatally Kick Chicago Cab Driver

Cab driver Anis Tungekar died two days later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

CHICAGO, IL — The family of a Chicago taxi driver is demanding answers three months after he was killed during a confrontation with an Uber driver in the West Loop. The Sept. 2 confrontation was caught on a security camera, including the Uber driver's roundhouse kick that struck 64-year-old Anis Tungekar in the head, causing him to collapse and die just days later, WMAQ said.

Now, the family is wondering why there hasn't been an arrest or charges filed in his death. "Here we are three months later still waiting for someone to acknowledge it’s a crime to kick someone to death in the city of Chicago," Omar Tungekar, Anis' 36-year-old son, said, according to WMAQ.

A GoFundMe page was created for the Anis' family, including his two sons, Omar and Rehman, and wife Tharmina. His son's lost their mother, Flordeliza, in 2001. He (middle) and his two sons are pictured above.

"Mr. Tungekar was the victim of a road rage attack in the Loop area of Chicago, IL," a post on the GoFundMe page reads. "After walking away from a traffic dispute, he was brutally beaten by another driver, taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, put on life support, and succumbed to his injuries on September 4th, 2018."

The scene's surveillance video (below) shows the drivers pulling over near the corner of Jefferson and Madison, where you can see Anis confronting the Uber driver before walking over to the passenger side and pushing in the mirror, at which point the Uber driver gets out and kicks Anis in the head.

According to WFLD, the Uber driver was questioned by authorities and released, as a Cook County State's Attorney's Office spokesperson said the incident is the subject of a continuing police investigation.

"This is a horrible tragedy... As soon as we were made aware, we immediately removed this (driver's) access from the platform," Uber said in a statement. "We will fully cooperate with law enforcement."

However, the family's attorney Michael Gallagher said they aren't going to wait anymore for this to go forward.
