Volleyball Coach Fired Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Indiana University Northwest in Gary confirmed the dismissal of first-year coach Emilio Torres.

GARY, IN - A collegiate women’s volleyball coach in Northwest Indiana was fired this week after less than a year on the job due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

Emilio Torres was officially fired as head coach of the women’s volleyball team at Indiana University Northwest on Monday, according to a report from the Times of Northwest Indiana. He was in the middle of his first year with the team, having previously served as head coach at Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond.

Tom Wyatt, director of marketing and communications for Indiana University Northwest, confirmed the firing came as a result of the allegations but did not elaborate on the nature of the accusations.

Torres has not been charged. The case is now being handled by the Lake County Indiana Prosecutor’s Office after it began as an investigation by Indiana University police.

Information about Torres has been removed from the school’s athletic website.
