Cubs in the Playoffs? How to Buy Postseason Tickets

Fans can register online now for a chance to see Chicago play October baseball at Wrigley Field.

CHICAGO — Talking about the postseason with less than a month left in the regular season might seem like a ready-made jinx to the most superstitious of Chicago Cubs fans.

But with the team comfortably leading the National League Central division, October baseball is a virtual lock for the North Siders, and that means fans need to be thinking about the playoffs now if they want to be in the stands for those games.

From now until noon Sept. 21, fans can register for a drawing for a chance to buy single-game postseason tickets for a potential wild card play-in game and the National League Division Series, the Cubs announced Wednesday. To do that, fans need to go to the postseason ticket page at the Cubs website and fill out all the information.

The wild card game is set for Oct. 5, but it's doubtful that the Cubs will be playing in that. As the NL Central leader, Chicago most likely will be hosting Games 1 and 2 of the NLDS, which will be Oct. 7 and 8. A potential Game 5 also would be played at Wrigley Field on Oct. 13, if necessary.

Fans who are chosen in the drawing will be notified by email and will be able to buy a maximum of four tickets, depending on availability, on a first-come, first-served basis. Also, being selected in the drawing is not a guarantee of postseason tickets.

"With so much excitement surrounding this year's team, demand will certainly exceed the limited number of tickets we have available for postseason play at Wrigley Field," Colin Faulkner, Cubs senior vice president of sales and marketing, said in a statement. "Like last year, we once again wanted to provide a fair process to give access to these tickets. Nearly 1.2 million people registered for the purchase opportunity last year, so we encourage fans to register early and purchase quickly if their name is selected."

What happens if you're not selected after registering? Those fans will be eligible for future drawings if the Cubs continue to advance in the postseason. Fans, however, can only use this process once to purchase single-game postseason tickets.

Prices and the on-sale date for single-game postseason tickets will be announced after the Sept. 21 deadline. Fans can visit the Chicago Cubs website or call the team's fan services department at 773-388-8270 for more information.
