Wanted Gang Member Nabbed By FBI, Marshals Service In San Juan

Jason "Chapo" Arroyo had been wanted for years as part of "Operation Lion's Pride," FBI says.

CHICAGO, IL — An alleged Chicago gang member wanted for more than three years was arrested Wednesday in San Juan, Puerto Rico by federal authorities, the FBI announced Friday.

Agents from the U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI arrested Jason "Chapo" Arroyo, 33, and presented an unsealed 2013 indictment charging him with conspiracy to deal drugs.

Arroyo had been sought since as part of a joint FBI Chicago and Chicago Police Department investigation into Latino gangs in the area called "Operation Lion's Pride," according to the FBI.

That operation has so far yielded at least 15 other arrests in the area, an FBI spokesperson said.

The High intensity Drug Trafficking Area program also provided great assistance with the investigation, according to the spokesperson.
