Warm Start and End to Week, Chilly Mid-Week / Thunderstorms and Snow Possible

A look ahead at this week's forecast for the Chicago area.

The start and the end of this week will see temps warming into the 40s and even 50s for some, but the middle of the week will be much cooler.

Temps are expected to reach a high between 43 and 49 on Monday and temps between 43 and 57 degrees are possible on Tuesday across the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service. There will be visible cloud cover, but no precipitation in the forecast on Monday. On Tuesday, rain is likely in the morning -- and there is a slight chance for thunderstorms as well.

When we get to Wednesday, temps will drop off and there will be a chance for snow in the afternoon. Temps will reach a high between 23 and 31 degrees in the Chicago area on Wednesday and then temperatures are expected to hit a high between 22 and 28 degrees on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temps will warm again on Friday, reaching a high between 42 and 45 degrees across the area.

  • Sunday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 20s. North winds around 5 mph in the evening shifting to the southeast after midnight.
  • Monday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the upper 40s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
  • Monday Night: Cloudy. Chance of light rain and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening, then rain and a chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the upper 30s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.
  • Tuesday: Cloudy. Rain likely and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning, then a chance of rain in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 40s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph in the morning becoming west 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
  • Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of rain in the evening. Lows in the mid 20s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
  • Wednesday: Partly sunny. A 20 percent chance of snow in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 20s.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of snow in the evening. Lows 10 to 14.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 20s.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly clear in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Lows 17 to 21.
