Warmer Temps and Then Accumulating Snow by Mid-Week

Unseasonably mild conditions will continue for a couple more days before cooler temperatures and snow is moves into the Chicago area by mid-week.

High temps between 40 and 45 degrees are in the forecast for both Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. There will be mostly cloudy skies on Monday and cloudy skies on Tuesday. Those heading out in the morning Monday should expect some patchy fog, weather officials said.

A pattern shift with a return to more seasonable conditions will return by mid-week with a chance for some accumulating snow on Wednesday. The best chance for accumulation should be north of the I-88 corridor. South of I-88 should see a rain/snow mix or all rain. Some lingering light snow or snow showers may continue into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

• Tonight: Cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows in the mid 30s. North winds 10 to 15 mph.
• Monday: Cloudy. Patchy fog in the morning. Highs in the lower 40s. North winds 10 to 15 mph.
• Monday Night: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Tuesday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the lower 40s. Southwest winds around 5 mph in the morning shifting to the southeast in the afternoon.
• Tuesday Night: Cloudy with light rain likely. Lows in the mid 30s. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph in the evening becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
• Wednesday: Cloudy. Chance of light rain in the morning...then a chance of light rain and light snow in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 40s...but cooling into the 30s in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.
• Wednesday Night: Cloudy. Chance of light rain and light snow in the evening. Lows around 30. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
• Thursday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the mid 30s.
• Thursday Night Through Friday Night: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the lower 20s. Highs in the lower 30s.
