If you couldn't make it into downtown Chicago for the river dyeing and parade, Patch streamed both events live.

CHICAGO, IL — If you weren't able to leap up in the morning to watch the Chicago River turn green at 9 a.m., or missed the parade, don't worry — Patch streamed both events live, and you can watch the videos here.

Thousands of people of all ages participated in the parade: bagpipers, dancers, marching bands, puppeteers, rock bands, acrobats and more. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Gov. Bruce Rauner marched in the parade, along with many candidates running in Tuesday's primary election.

Earlier in the day, thousands of people gathered along the Chicago Riverwalk to watch the dyeing, a tradition that began in 1962. The Chicago Plumbers Union started the tradition, with a substance that was used to find leaks in buildings.

About 40 pounds of dye was poured into the river between Columbus Drive and State Street. The Patch live stream of the event received more than 20 thousand views.
