WEEKEND WEATHER: Warmer Temps Before Sunday Cooldown

Will the Chicago area see an early spring? AccuWeather forecaster says, "no."

Temperatures are expected to warm this weekend before dropping off into the 20s Sunday night.

The Chicago area was expected to see high temps in the lower 30s and 40s on Friday but it might not have felt that warm as strong wind gusts whipped through the area. Wind gusts between 30 and 35 mph were expected through Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The warm up is expected to continue on Saturday ahead of low pressure moving across the region, which will bring rainfall to some areas Saturday evening and night. Areas south of I-80 are most likely to see rainfall.

Will Chicago Area See an Early Spring?

Despite what has been pretty mild winter so far, AccuWeather lead long-range forecaster Paul Pastelok told CBS Chicago the area should not expect an early spring. Warmer weather will be slow to stick for areas in the Midwest, Great Plains, and Northeast.

“Everything’s going to be kind of behind, I think; and I think that’s the area of the country that’s going to slowly, gradually get into the transition part,” he said.
