White Sox Fans Are Smarter Than Cubs Fans: Study

Fans of both Chicago baseball teams are among the best when it comes to grammar.

A recent Wall Street Journal study used the automated proofreading company Grammarly to rank the grammar, punctuation and spelling for every fan base in Major League Baseball.

The study, which provided the average number of grammar mistakes per every 100 words, showed the Chicago White Sox fan base having the third best grammar in all of baseball. The Cubs were fourth.

To get the results, Grammarly reviewed 150 reader comments from the news section on each team’s website. They looked at an average of more than 10,000 words per team.

The San Diego Padres were second, with a 4.4 rate.

After the White Sox and Cubs, the Seattle Mariners rounded out the top five with a 5.2 mistake rate.
Bad grammar, on the other hand, may be linked to trash talk.

The study found two franchises known for boasting the most trash talkers are at the bottom of the list. Fans of the New York Mets make grammar mistakes in 13.9 of every 100 words and fans of the Philadelphia Phillies are the next worst, at 13.5.
