Who You Calling Fat, Dick Wolf? Chicagoans Take Issue With 'Law & Order' Creator's Burn
Doesn't the TV producer know that Chicago isn't fat, it just has broad shoulders?
CHICAGO — "Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf demonstrated Wednesday why he has a reputation as a master of TV crime. The producer — in town to mark the beginning of filming for "Chicago Justice," the newest series in his Windy City-based, murder-and-mayhem TV franchise — blasted Chicagoans with a polite-but-lethal drive-by backhanded compliment.
"I said to the mayor I tell people that Chicago, compared to New York — where I grew up and I still love — this is a cleaner, politer New York with slightly heavier people," Wolf said during an appearance Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, where his Chicago-based shows are filmed, according to the Chicago Tribune.
That's right, Dick Wolf — the man who proved with "Law & Order SVU" that he's never met a human orifice he couldn't match with an inappropriate bodily fluid — essentially told the people of Chicago, "Wow, you gained a lot of weight. But you carry it well. It works on you."

Naturally, residents didn't appreciate Wolf's candor. Even if they didn't think he was wrong:

How dare Dick Wolf fat shame Chicagoans! The city just has more "body positivity" than New York. That and better pizza, hot dogs, beer...

While Wolf's remarks were tactless, they at least didn't disparage one of Chicago's sacred institutions, as a couple people pointed out:

Anyone got a Venn diagram of people claiming deep dish pizza is the best pizza and offended that Dick Wolf called them fat?

The sad thing is, Dick Wolf made a lot fewer people mad by calling Chicagoans fat than he would have by saying New York has better pizza
