Willie Wilson Plans Second $1 Million Gas Giveaway At 50 Stations

CHICAGO — Dr. Willie Wilson is planning a second gas giveaway at 50 locations throughout Chicago and the suburbs starting at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 24, in response to soaring gas prices due to the war in Ukraine and ban on Russian oil. The former mayoral candidate, humanitarian and businessman is being joined by gas station owners Khalil Abdullah and Amin Ibrahim.

Motorists swarmed to ten gas stations in Chicago on St. Patrick’s Day for Wilson’s $200,000 gas give away, snarling traffic and tying up Chicago police officers’ time. One Chicago alderman called the giveaway “reckless” and “irresponsible.”

Wilson is planning to give away $1 million in gasoline on March 24. All 50 participating gas stations have agreed to lower their gasoline prices. Motorists will receive $50 worth of gasoline pumped by a volunteer, and a notepad from Wilson. He invites the news media, elected officials and clergy to volunteer at their local gas station to pump gas.

“The need among our community is so great. Soaring gas prices have caused a hardship for too many of our citizens,” Wilson said in a news release. The average price of regular gas has gone well over $4 a gallon in nearly 14 years and is now up nearly 50 percent from the past year.”
