Willie Wilson's Gas Giveaway: What You Need To Know

CHICAGO — Less than two weeks after he declared his candidacy in Chicago’s mayoral race, Willie Wilson is planning his third gas giveaway on Saturday at 35 gas stations in Chicago and suburban Cook County.

The businessman will give away $1 million in free gas starting at 7 a.m. that day. Also, cars may not start lining up at participating gas stations until 6 a.m., so there is no overnight camping.

Volunteers will distribute 400 tickets at each gas station, entitling the bearer to $50 worth of free gas. Once all the tickets have been distributed, the others in line will have to go home.

“It will be a customized black ticket number 1 through 400,” said Jocelyn Needer, Wilson’s event coordinator. “It’s going to be 80 degrees on Saturday, so we expect a big turnout.”

Wilson has given away $1.2 million in gas at two giveaways last month, in response to skyrocketing prices at the pump due largely to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
