CHICAGO — A Chicago man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in downtown Chicago Friday was ordered held without bond as he awaits trial.
Anthony Brown, 26, of the 1800 block of South St. Louis Avenue, was arrested around 1:21 a.m. in the 300 block of Lower Michigan Avenue after officers dispatched to a well-being check witnessed him assaulting a 20-year-old woman, according to police.
Prosecutors approved charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault while committing another felony and attempted kidnapping with use of force.

The woman Brown is accused of assaulting had walked away from her boyfriend after an argument at Tavern on Rush, Assistant State's Attorney Ryan DeGroot told Cook County Associate Judge Mary Marubio Sunday at a bond hearing, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The prosecutor said video from police cameras showed the woman was clearly intoxicated and struggling with Brown as he tried to drag her toward a nearby Jeep belonging to a witness.
DeGroot said another witness showed up, got out of a passing car and asked the woman if she was all right, according to the Chicago Tribune. She said that she was, but began running away from Brown.

The prosecutor told the judge the owner of the Jeep later called 911 to report that Brown was on top of the apparently unconscious woman. According to the Sun-Times, a Chicago police sergeant showed up about 15 minutes later and arrested Brown, who told the sergeant he was "just trying to get some p----."
Police said the woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She later told officers she recognized Brown, the Tribune reported, but she did not remember anything after walking down Michigan Avenue with him.
Brown is due back in court on Sept. 10.
