Woman Who Killed Boyfriend While 8 Months Pregnant Appears In Court: Reports

She says the fatal stabbing was an act of self-defense, according to reports.

CHICAGO — A woman charged with murder after fatally stabbing her boyfriend while eight months pregnant in what she says was an act of self-defense appeared in court Tuesday, according to reports.

Keshia Golden’s lawyers want the charges dropped, but so far the state has only offered her the chance to plead guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder, which she rejected, WLS reported, adding a bench trial hearing is set for Aug. 17.

Golden, of Chicago, killed Calvin Sidney after a baby shower on Oct. 22, 2022, for their first child together, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

After an argument over the microwave, Sidney slammed Golden into a counter and the refrigerator, refusing to relent when a relative tried to separate them, leading Golden to take a knife and stab him in the leg, Assistant Public Defender Kyan Keenan told the Sun-Times.

Prosecutors say Golden knocked a plate of food from Sidney’s hands, he pushed her, a family member separated them, Sidney went to a bedroom, and Golden entered the room and stabbed him while he was lying down, WLS reported.

Golden previously called police over 50 times to report abuse, according to the Sun-Times, which reported police responded to five violent incidents involving the couple during a four-month period in 2022 and Golden took out a protection order against Sidney in July of that year.

Golden’s daughter is now 3, and with the support of advocates and lawyers, Golden has been able to give birth and raise the child outside incarceration, the Sun-Times reported.
