Alicia’s House Honors Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez
Food pantry honors Gonzalez with the group's George H. Gunderson Jr. Memorial Award on September 9 for mayor's "devotion."

(Chicago Heights, IL) – South suburban food pantry Alicia’s House recently honored City of Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez for his “devotion” to the 16-year old organization.
Located in the Village of South Chicago Heights and serving the south suburban region, Alicia’s House honored Gonzalez with the group’s George H. Gunderson Jr. Memorial Award on September 9.
“This award is being presented to Mayor David Gonzalez in recognition of your devotion to helping Alicia’s House help others and recognizing that blessings aren’t bestowed upon us to be held on to tightly but instead must be shared and spread to others so that they can multiply,” the plaque’s inscription reads.

Gonzalez says that he’s “deeply honored” by the award.
“Of course, I’m deeply honored to receive the Gunderson Award from Alicia’s House, an organization that works tirelessly in local communities to feed the hungry,” said Gonzalez. “I’m happy and proud to help the food pantry in way that I may be able.”

Alicia’s House was founded in 2001 by Juan and Stella Hernandez of Beecher who assumed operation of the Crete food pantry shortly after their granddaughter, Alicia Hernandez, 4, died in a home accident. They dedicated the revamped non-profit food pantry to her memory.
The pantry serves low-income the residents of Crete, Beecher, Steger, Monee, Peotone, University Park and South Chicago Heights.
