CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A Chicago Heights man faces felony gun charges after sheriff's police found a loaded gun in the car he was driving, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.
At approximately 9:50 p.m. on May 15, officers stopped a gray Chevrolet Malibu after they saw it run a red light at the intersection of Joe Orr Road and Stoney Island Avenue in unincorporated Bloom Township, the sheriff's office said.
Officers learned the driver, Ryan Mitchell, had a no-bond warrant from La Salle County for driving with a suspended license, and took him into custody. While searching his car before towing it, officers found the loaded firearm. Mitchell did not have a FOID or a concealed carry license, the sheriff's office said.
On the morning of May 16, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged him with possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender.
Mitchell was ordered to Cook County Jail custody on May 16 following his court appearance at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
