Woman Who Killed Bicyclist In Hit-And-Run Found With Help Of Flock Cameras: Police

Steger woman, 60, is charged with aggravated DUI and several other charges in the July 21 hit-and-run.

CRETE, IL — A Steger woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist in Crete late Tuesday, police said. Flock cameras helped police locate the driver after she fled and left the bicyclist lying in the street, police said.

At approximately 10:56 p.m., Crete police were dispatched to the 900 Block of Main Street/Route 1 for a report of a crash involving a bicycle and vehicle. Dispatch advised the offending vehicle left the scene after striking the pedestrian.

Police at the scene found a person lying in the middle of the roadway with severe injuries. The Crete Fire Department was immediately contacted to render aid. The person was found to be unresponsive and deceased, police said.

Their identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Witnesses at the scene described the suspect vehicle to police. According to officials, officers checked the Flock camera system and were able to positively identify the vehicle and license plate, which was traced to Steger.

Crete and Steger police went to the address associated with the car, where they found the vehicle with heavy front and windshield damage, according to authorities.

Crete police and a Will County Sheriff Drug Recognition Expert Deputy investigated and interviewed the owner of the vehicle.

Renice Richmond, 60, was arrested and taken to the Crete Police Department.

She has been charged with felony aggravated DUI, DUI 1st or 2nd offense, DUI BAC .08 or more 1st or 2nd offense, failure to report a crash or injury, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury or death, aggravated DUI-no insurance, and driving too fast for conditions or failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Other charges are currently under review by the Will County State's Attorney's Office.

Renice was detained and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility pending a court appearance before a judge.

She is due in court at 1:30 p.m. July 23.
