Pipefitters Local 597 Helps Glenwood Academy With Storm Clean-up

GLENWOOD, IL — Pipefitters Local 597 sent more than 60 apprentices to Glenwood Academy for several days to help with storm clean-up after the campus was hit by an EF-1 tornado on August 11.

The tornado, which tore through the 120-acre campus, caused significant physical damage to the grounds and buildings, including overturned trees, broken windows, destroyed cars, and more.

Local 597 spent the days cutting down branches, removing trees, and fixing various areas of campus that were impacted. The union has been a supporter of Glenwood Academy for years, representatives said, and hosts a holiday pizza party for students annually, complete with visits with Santa Claus and presents for all who attend.

With the help and hard work of Glenwood Academy employees and volunteers, students were able to return to campus as scheduled, and school opened on time on August 17. Glenwood Academy is a residential educational facility, with students living on campus Sundays through Fridays.
