Local graduates from Bloom High School and Prairie State College participants say the program has transformed shy, sometimes struggling youth into confident leaders considering law enforcement and military careers, with strong backing from the Chicago Heights Police Department.
• Family and kids events lineup in South Cook County for Sept. 20-26 (southcooknews.com) — Families in and around Chicago Heights have a full week of activities, from SNAP assistance, crafts, and games at the Chicago Heights Public Library to human services help and storytimes at the Steger-South Chicago Heights Library District. With programs running through Saturday, Sept. 26, you can find everything from kids' story hours to tech help, fitness classes, and after-school options across South Cook County.
• Settlement talks underway to revoke license of director at South Side funeral home where 56 bodies were found (suntimes.com) — Illinois regulators are moving to permanently revoke a funeral director's license after dozens of decomposing bodies were found at a South Side funeral home, a case tied to earlier violations at a now-closed Chicago Heights crematory. State police say the Chicago Heights investigation is still active, and lawmakers may use these scandals to push for stronger oversight of funeral homes and crematories statewide.
