Cocaine, Ecstasy, Guns Found: Brothers, 1 Other Man Arrested After Raid At Sauk Village Home, Sheriff Says

The stash was discovered Sept. 11 amid a narcotics sales investigation, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.

SAUK VILLAGE, IL — Three men were arrested following a narcotics investigation at a Sauk Village home this month, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.

Four guns and suspected drugs were recovered at the home, the sheriff's office said.

On Sept. 11, Sheriff's Police Organized Crime Division investigators along with the Sheriff's Police Hostage Barricade Team and the FBI Chicago Field Office's South Resident Agency Violent Crime and Gang Task Force executed a search warrant at the residence in the 1900 block of 218th Place, the sheriff's office said. As Sheriff's Police approached the home, a man—later identified as 21-year-old Cevion Burnett, who was on parole for a gun possession conviction—tossed a gun out the window of the home and onto the roof of a neighboring residence, police said. He and two others, 34-year-old Carlos Burnett and 53-year-old Keith Smith were detained. Investigators recovered the gun from the neighbor's roof.

During the search of the home, they recovered three other firearms, suspected crack cocaine, suspected ecstasy, an array of ammunition, a money counter, and paraphernalia typically used to weigh and package narcotics, according to the sheriff's office.

After further investigation by Organized Crime investigators, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office charged Cevion Burnett with possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender and felon in possession of a weapon. The State's Attorney's Office charged Carlos Burnett with armed violence, possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender and felon in possession of a firearm. He was also charged with manufacture/delivery of cocaine, manufacture/delivery of ecstasy, possession of cocaine, and possession of a controlled substance.

Both Burnett brothers were ordered to Cook County Jail custody on Sept. 12 following their first appearance hearings at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse. Smith was processed on a warrant for failure to pay child support.
