SOUTH HOLLAND, IL — A 53-year-old Chicago Heights man has been arrested in connection with a crash and shooting on I-94 in the south suburbs, Illinois State Police said Thursday.
On Sept. 17, ISP Troop 3 units responded to a traffic crash and reported shooting on I-94 southbound at 159th Street in South Holland.
According to police, a vehicle involved in the crash did not stop and continued southbound with the driver—identified as Forrest McHerron—shooting from his vehicle. Multiple vehicles were struck by gunfire, and one of the victims returned fire, striking McHerron, state police said.
McHerron continued driving into Indiana and was stopped by the Hammond Police Department. McHerron was taken to an area hospital for his injuries and remained in ISP custody. The victim that returned fire was not injured or charged.
On Sept. 19, state police presented the case to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, which approved two counts of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of felony aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm.
McHerron appeared at a pre-trial detention hearing and was denied release, state police said.
