CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A man found shot to death in Chicago Heights on Halloween night has been identified as a leader in community violence intervention and prevention agency.
Andre Thomas, 57, of Matteson, was found with multiple gunshot wounds Saturday night at the office of Integrity & Fidelity, the agency he led as CEO and executive director, according to Chicago Alderman David Moore.
"This is an unimaginable loss, not only for his family, friends, and colleagues, but also for the countless individuals and communities whose lives he touched through his leadership, commitment, and service," Moore shared on social media.
"My heart is heavy as I struggle to process this senseless act of violence. Please keep Andre's family, loved ones, staff, and the entire Integrity & Fidelity family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
"May God provide them with strength, comfort, and peace in the days ahead. Andre's life, work, and impact on the community will not be forgotten."
Chicago Heights police were called to the 400 block of W. 14th Street at 9:24 p.m. Saturday, in response to a gunshot detection alert.
Thomas was found and taken by the Chicago Heights Fire Department to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said Sunday.
CBS reports that surveillance video shows someone walking toward a parked car with the headlights on and the driver's side door open. The victim was shot at close range several times, according to CBS.
The Chicago Heights Police Department requested assistance from the Illinois State Police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. Thomas' death is being investigated as a homicide.
