Baby Expo all about family, highlighting services for new parents

Expectant mothers and fathers enjoyed fun & games, along with expert information at the second annual Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star Baby Expo

Franciscan Health’s Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star Baby Expo at Olympia Fields Country Club highlighted the services offered by local and national exhibitors who offered information on child safety, early learning, breastfeeding and other services available to families in the Southland area. More than 100 guests were treated to a free breakfast buffet, along with the opportunity to win prizes through raffles and games. Free chair massages added to the soothing nature of the June 15 event.

The expo also introduced families to the new Franciscan Health Family Birth Center Olympia Fields, which opened in September 2018 as part of the renovations at the hospital. The updated facility offers “the highest level of quality, safe care in the most pleasing environment,” according to lactation consultant Teresa Berki, RN.

It also continues the tradition that has made the hospital a place where multiple generations have given birth. “Once a family delivers with us, they’re part of our Franciscan family forever,” Berki said. “Graduates” of the Family Birth Center, Airielle and David Franklin, praised the family-centered care they received, and brought their infant son, Christopher, to visit with the Family Birth Center staff at the expo.

Unit Manager Pauline Jacobs said that the Family Birth Center’s skilled nursing staff and physicians can provide high-risk care, allowing patients with special needs to find everything they need in Olympia Fields, rather than having to travel elsewhere.

Franciscan Health will continue its effort to further inform Southland residents about women and children health issues with a new OB/Gyn lecture series entitled “Baby Talks.” The first installment, “The Magic of Breast Milk” will be presented at the Franciscan Health Olympia Fields auditorium on Thursday, August 1, at 6:00 p.m. To learn more, visit FranciscanHealth.org or by calling 866-790-2229.
