Bail Denied For Man Accused of Fatally Shooting Chicago Heights Teen
Chicago Heights man accused of killing teen is a convicted sex predator. Second man charged with supplying gun.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL -- Bail was denied to a Chicago Heights convicted sex predator accused of shooting a Chicago Heights teen on Sept. 16. Sherman Martin, 42, appeared at the Markham Courthouse for a bond hearing on Wednesday. Martin has been charged with first-degree murder.
Police responded to a report of a shooting the afternoon of Sept. 16. When officers arrived, they found 17-year-old Tyrone Anthony laying in the street near the southwest corner of 15th and Wallace Streets, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The teen was taken to St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A second man was also charged, DuShawn Cook, 46, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon in connection to Anthony’s death. Cook is accused of giving the alleged murder weapon to Martin, the Daily Southtown reported.

The prosecutor told the judge that earlier in the day a man was escorted away from Martin’s house, but later returned to the area with Anthony. Cook is alleged to have handed Martin the gun. Chicago Heights police found as many as five spent shell casings at the scene and a silver handgun.
Martin is listed as a non-compliant sex offender for failure to maintain accurate records on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry. He was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault The victim was 28 and Martin was 15 at the time of the offense.

Cook’s bail was set at $50,000. Both men are due back in court Oct. 6 in Markham.
