Bloom 206 Begins Full In-Person Learning

The district has laid out a comprehensive plan to support safety and supportive learning.

Bloom Township High School District 206 will begin full in-person learning this week, as mandated by the State of Illinois, and the district is working hard to ensure families are safe.

The district has been closely following the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Cook County Department of Public Health, the Illinois State Board of Education, and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines regarding the safe opening of schools. Part of their safety protocol includes the requirement that Bloom and Bloom Trail high school students and staff wear masks while on school grounds throughout the first quarter of the school year.

The district also enacted a transition plan to ensure students are fully supported in their return via the schools’ operations, teaching and learning, sports, human resources, and financial resources teams. As a part of this plan, the district also received feedback from parents during the summer which informed them of how to best support families, while ensuring a safe and academically rich learning environment for all.

The district’s theme this year is Leveling Up 2.0. This is about working together as a united faculty and staff to achieve their mission of preparing students for their future- both academically, and socially to be productive and healthy members of the global society.

This also involves leveling up to extend their partnerships within the community in order to provide a deeper level of support to families. On August 3rd, the district ran a community vaccination clinic where hundreds of families from their district and foundation schools were able to receive mandatory immunizations, the COVID-19 vaccine, school sports physicals, and dental services. This was the first time an immunization event of this magnitude had been held in the south suburban area.

“Our goal is to create a safe and impactful learning environment, in which our students can feel secure and are able to focus on their education,” said Superintendent Lenell Navarre. “We’ve worked with families to make sure we are taking all of their concerns into account while following national, state, and local guidelines. There are many elements to consider but our number one concern is the students, their families, and the community we serve.”

Freshmen and sophomores attend orientation in-person Wednesday, August 11th, in order to help them get acclimated to their schools. All students will attend class in person starting Thursday, August 12th.
