Bloom 206 Learn and Share Financial Literacy

Bloom 206's new program, in partnership with S.T.O.R.Y.BOARD Network, is elevating the work of its accounting class.

Bloom Township students took part in a special program that allowed them to take their accounting class to the next level.

In partnership with the S.T.O.R.Y.BOARD Network, Bloom 206 tasked students with a service project that helped elevate financial literacy, responsibility, and community giving as key mission areas.

Since September 1, 2021, business teacher Etholia Holmes, has had her students linking money to missions, with the students working to achieve several tasks over the past six months, including completing 73 hours of service, creating 50 financial-literacy care packs for less fortunate students, and creating a presentation on the importance of saving.

The students also donated 100% of a grant to The Robin Memorial Scholarship Fund for students who are in need of support after they graduate. The students in the program worked within a project-based learning environment where they learned the art of collaboration, teamwork, troubleshooting, and perseverance within accounting. Finally, the students broke a district-wide academic record by becoming the first accounting class to obtain industry certifications in accounting with students earning certifications via Intuit QuickBooks.

"I am beyond proud of the students' hard work and dedication to academic success and achievement within accounting class," said Holmes. "It's a rigorous certification but students excelled."
