Bloom 206’s Parent University Returns for Third Year
The annual conference is aimed at building strong, positive relationships between parents of high school students and the school district.
On Saturday, October 21, Bloom Township High School District 206 held its third annual Parent University event in the Conference Center at Prairie State College, where parents of high school students heard lectures from several education and parenting experts in a workshop environment.
The event covered a multitude of topics, including Cyber-Bullying, Teen Suicide Prevention, Human Trafficking, DACA and Toxic Relationship with some sessions devoted exclusively to Spanish-speaking parents. Outside the lecture hall and classrooms, south suburban librarians from Chicago Heights, Steger-South Chicago Heights and Glenwood-Lynwood public libraries manned informational booths. Parents also were able to speak with representatives from several area nonprofit organizations such as Reclaim13 and The Network Room, with close to 100 parents in attendance.
Bloom 206 Superintendent Lenell Navarre praised parents for taking time to utilize the learning space. “The work of our educators is commendable, but the impact of the parents, grandparents and guardians of our students is immeasurable,” Navarre said. “I would like to thank all of our families for taking time out of their Saturday to attend, learn and share their experiences as a community.”
