Bloom 206 Schools Wrap First Year of Pre-AP Courses

Both Bloom High School and Bloom Trail High School have received an official Pre-Advanced Placement designation from the College Board.

Pre-Advanced Placement courses get students ready for AP and other college-level coursework and offer consistent, high standards in focused courses that help build, strengthen, and reinforce students’ content knowledge and skills.

Both Bloom High School and Bloom Trail High School were selected to participate in this pilot year where only 100 schools in the nation were chosen. All of our freshmen take Pre-AP Algebra, Pre-AP Biology, Pre-AP English and some also take Pre-AP Dance or Pre-AP Music.

Two retitled Math courses were implemented for this school year as part of the new Pre-AP Framework. Pre-AP Algebra 1 and Pre-AP Algebra 1 Honors focus deeply on concepts and skills that set up students for college and career success. District 206 is one of the few districts nationwide to use this program.

The math department also began the year with a focus on preparing for the SAT suite of assessments. From day one, teachers interwove SAT style questions and study strategies into their lessons along with online supports.

Expanding English

Pre-AP English I replaced English I as freshmen students were introduced to a curriculum that helped build, strengthen, and reinforce student’s content knowledge and skills.

This year also marks the first year for an exciting new English course at Bloom Township in which the students read and study great works of art and literature from Latin America and read and study seminal pieces of African-American literature.

This course serves as an additional option for completing the English IV requirement while at the same time exposing the students to literature more culturally diverse than they may have experienced in the past. The inaugural year for the course has been a great success, with one section running at Bloom and two sections of the course running at Bloom Trail.
