On Friday, April 22nd many Bloom Trail students left their last period class with a basketball ticket in their hand.

Students were treated to a Staff vs. Student basketball game if they met several criteria including grades, attendance, and behavior. Several of Trail’s varsity basketball players were featured as game coaches, referees, and announcers.

The staff team was composed of teachers, paraprofessionals, and student service personnel. The student team was composed of students from all grade levels who signed up to play and were eligible to participate.

“It was truly a whole group effort,” stated Principal Glynis Keene. “The PE department helped out with equipment, and our athletic director provided Bloom uniforms for both teams. It was great to see everyone’s excitement about the game and this opportunity to reward our students.”

The idea for the game came from Assistant Principal Timel Moore, who has led the school’s new PBIS initiative this year. Mr. Moore was very happy with the results, stating “This year we have been stressing CREW behavior and CREW expectations [Community, Responsibility, Engagement, & Worthiness]. The student vs. staff basketball game was a great opportunity for students who have been displaying CREW behaviors to participate in a fun school-wide activity. The activity was such a success that students have been asking if next year we can have CREW volleyball and possibly flag football games as incentive activities.”
