BMX Champ Matt Wilhelm Visits CHSD170's Greenbriar School

The alumnus of America's Got Talent shared his anti-bullying message with a rapt student audience

BMX champion Matt Wilhelm recently visited CHSD170’s Greenbriar School as part of an Anti-Bullying Assembly that incorporated his “America’s Got Talent” riding skills into his message of tolerance and friendship.

During the assembly, Wilhelm acknowledged the importance of words in the anti-bullying dynamic.

“When you call somebody names your words can tear that person apart,” he has said.

Wilhelm noted that at his presentations he tries to help students to realize that it is important to understand that before you say anything to someone you should ask yourself if your words will make that person seem more or less valuable?

“Befriending and, when necessary, standing up for others is the key to confronting bullying!”

Greenbriar’s PTO Coordinator Christie Brown contacted Wilhelm to arrange for the assembly.

“While we at Greenbriar School are, for the most part, lucky to have minor bullying troubles, we realize that combatting that problem is an ongoing issue,” Brown said.

“Mr. Wilhelm’s words, coupled with his amazing talents as a BMX rider, affected our students in an apparent way and, hopefully, his anti-bullying message will be embraced by all,” she concluded.

Joe Taylor, Greenbriar’s Principal, agreed with Brown.

“The assembly was a great success with Mr. Wilhelm’s amazing BMX talents underscoring the importance of his message,” he acknowledged.

“I believe that all of our students and staff appreciated his presentation, and we applaud all efforts in reducing bullying problems in schools.”
