Cello Prodigy Cameron Renshaw Performs at Grant School

CHSD170's Grant School recently welcomed twelve-year-old cello prodigy Cameron Renshaw who appeared at a program in the school's gymnasium.

Renshaw has won many international competitions and has played in some of the world's most famous concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall in New York. He also appeared on television's popular "Ellen Show" in 2020.

Grant students enjoyed a performance of Tchaikovsky's "Variations on a Rococo Theme." The students, whose enthusiastic response indicated their approval of the concert, closed the assembly by asking Renshaw questions on various aspects of his performance and performing history.

"This was a great opportunity for our students to see such a highly skilled musician up close and to ask him questions about his experiences," said Grant School Music teacher Kristin Schmal.

"Our students learn about a different instrument in music class each week and discuss famous performers and composers as part of the learning process."

"At the end of March, our students learned about the cello, and we discussed Cameron. Then, through a stroke of luck and planning, I arranged for him to come and perform for our students in a surprise assembly."

"It was a truly amazing experience the students will never forget," Schmal concluded.
