Chicago Heights Man, 20, Charged In Crash That Killed 2 People: Prosecutor
The crash happened in January 2025 on I-57 near 167th Street.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A Chicago Heights man has been charged in connection with a 2025 crash that killed two people, Cook County prosecutors said.
Demitreaun Ross, 20, was arrested on two counts of reckless homicide, two counts of failure to report a crash resulting in death, and one count of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle related to a stolen vehicle crash on I-57, state police said.

On Jan. 29, 2025, ISP Troopers received a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a stolen vehicle that occurred on I-57 northbound near 167th Street. Three passengers in the vehicle were ejected during the crash, including two who later died.
ISP special agents through an investigation identified the driver as Ross. On Jan. 23, 2026, special agents found Ross and took him into custody without incident.

Ross was held pending his first court hearing.
