Chicago Heights Man, 37, Found With Illegal Gun During Traffic Stop: Sheriff

The man was found with the gun during a traffic stop in Chicago Heights Feb. 26, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A 37-year-old Chicago Heights man has been charged with illegally possessing a weapon after he was found with a loaded firearm during a traffic stop, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said this week.

At approximately 5:50 p.m. on Feb. 26, Cook County Sheriff’s Police Organized Crime Division investigators stopped a blue Jeep in the 0-100 block of West 23rd Street in Chicago Heights for a traffic violation.

Investigators learned the driver, Dandre Edmond, did not have a driver’s license. Edmond and his passengers were asked to step out of the vehicle, as it needed to be towed. Investigators found the loaded firearm on Edmond during a safety pat down.

Edmond did not have a valid FOID or concealed carry license and was taken into custody.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Edmond with felon in possession of a weapon. He was ordered to Cook County Jail custody on Feb. 27 following his initial court appearance at the Markham Courthouse.
