CHMS' Choir Performs at South Chicago Heights' Tree Lighting Ceremony

Last Friday, November 18th, the Chicago Heights Middle School Choir performed at the Village of South Chicago Heights' Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Senior Center.

During the ceremony, South Chicago Heights Mayor Terry Matthews spoke about the importance of the holiday ceremony and briefly explained the village's various services. A large audience filled with residents of South Chicago Heights and family and friends of the CHMS choir members

"Despite the frigid temperatures, the Tree Lighting Ceremony was a huge success," Matthews said.

"The packed room was beautifully entertained by the Chicago Heights Middle School Choir, who sang several holiday songs under the direction of Ms. Sabrina Steck."

"Every year, we look forward to their performance and have never been disappointed. A big thank you goes out to the Chicago Heights Middle School Choir for once again playing an important part in the Tree Lighting Ceremony," he concluded.

CHMS Principal Christopher Baikauskas added to Matthew's statements, saying, "It was an honor for the students of the CHMS Choir to once more receive an invitation to perform at South Chicago Heights' Tree Lighting Ceremony."

"Each year, our students become more aware of the importance of the holiday season through viewing the reactions and happiness reflected in the faces of those who attend the event," he concluded.

The students who performed in the Tree Lighting Ceremony: David Alexander, Alexandra Cornejo, Dulce Cornejo, Samara Coopwood, Anye Dawson, Sirr McCoy, Yadah Pickett, Tyler Sampson, Eric Serrato, Terrence Smith, Tatiana Williams, Abigail Marrufo Velazquez, and Nayla Lopez-Velazquez.

The Choir performed Jingle Bell Dash, Carol of the Bells, and Candle in the Window. The performance concluded with We Wish You A Merry Christmas, during which the audience joined in for a spirited close to the program.

“This is the second year that the CHMS Spartan Choir performed at the Tree Lighting Ceremony and the students and myself were honored to be asked back for such a special event,” Choir Director Steck said.

El viernes pasado, 18 de noviembre, el Coro de la Escuela Intermedia de Chicago Heights actuó en la Ceremonia de Encendido del Árbol de Village of South Chicago Heights en el Centro para Personas Mayores.

Durante la ceremonia, el alcalde de South Chicago Heights, Terry Matthews, habló sobre la importancia de la ceremonia festiva y explicó brevemente los diversos servicios del pueblo.
