The CHSD170 Board of Education Honors the CHMS Girls Softball Team

The softball team from the Chicago Heights Middle School was honored at the most recent meeting of the CHSD170 Board of Education in recognition of its superb 2023 season.
In recognition of its accomplishments, the team received a plaque to display in the school’s front trophy case.
At the meeting, the team was honored with speeches of congratulations from SD170 officials, family, and friends.

The special evening ended with everyone enjoying pizza and cupcakes.
“This was a wonderful evening celebrating the success of our girls,” said coach Ron Newquist.

“We had a great year, finishing with 12 wins, the most in school history. Although we lost a 6-5 heartbreaker in the Regional Championship game, our young ladies handled that adversity well, comporting themselves with the same dignity, sportsmanship, and class they showed throughout the season!”
The CHMS softball team’s roster included Daniela Alvarado, Yadi Alvarado, Evelyn Ayala, Zenaida Esquivel, Bella Guerrero, Victoria Guerrero, Serenity Nunez, Jenny Partida, Sammi Sanchez, Gorda Santiago, Alisson Torres, Jasmine Urquizo, Tati Williams, and Jackie Zacarias. The squad’s coaches were Jenna Kwasek, Ron Newquist, Leah Villarreal, Kiley Conner, and Olivia Vondrak.
Nick Pezzuto, CHSD170's Athletic Director, summed up the evening and the season, saying, “This was a terrific event honoring the success of our girls’ softball team. And the evening acknowledged more than the team’s success on the field; it recognized a great group of kids who were very dedicated to their coaches and practiced hard to improve their softball skills.”

El equipo de softbol de la escuela secundaria Chicago Heights fue honrado en la reunión más reciente de la Junta de Educación del CHSD170 en reconocimiento a su magnífica temporada 2023.
En reconocimiento a sus logros, el equipo recibió una placa para exhibir en la vitrina de trofeos frontal de la escuela.

"Esta fue una velada maravillosa para celebrar el éxito de nuestras chicas", dijo el entrenador Ron Newquist.
“Tuvimos un gran año, terminando con 12 victorias, la mayor cantidad en la historia de la escuela. ¡Aunque perdimos un rompecorazones 6-5 en el juego del Campeonato Regional, nuestras jóvenes manejaron bien esa adversidad, comportándose con la misma dignidad, deportividad y clase que mostraron durante toda la temporada"!
