As posted on its website, “the Illinois Principals Association (IPA) encourages all communities in Illinois to celebrate School Principal Appreciation Week October 20-26, 2024, and Principal/Administrator Appreciation Day on Friday, October 25, 2024.”
“This state-endorsed recognition was first approved by the Governor of Illinois in 1990 and is celebrated annually. The IPA also joins the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), and the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) to recognize October as National School Principal/Administrator Month.”
“Principal Appreciation Day provides learning communities an opportunity to publicly recognize the work, commitment, and importance of principals, assistant principals, and deans throughout the state. We invite all teachers, students, parents, and community members to perform some act of appreciation on Friday, October 25, 2024, to acknowledge the leadership of building administrators in Illinois’ public and private schools.”
Dr. Gretchen Sutherland, CHSD170’s Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, recognized the critical roles of school principals and administrators, saying, “Our school district is blessed to have some of the finest school principals, assistant principals, deans, and content administrators to be found anywhere."
“They work tirelessly to inspire, guide, and empower every member of their staff while providing the positive, engaging, and nurturing environment necessary to provide our students with the finest possible educational experience.”
CHSD170 Superintendent Tom Amadio readily agreed with Sutherland’s assessment.
“School administrators do more than shape schools; they affect the lives of their students in the finest possible way! Their influence is not just on the present but on the future of our nation. They inspire us all.” he said.

La Dra. Gretchen Sutherland, Superintendente Adjunta de Enseñanza y Aprendizaje de CHSD170, reconoció el papel fundamental de los directores y administradores escolares, diciendo: "Nuestro distrito escolar tiene la bendición de tener algunos de los mejores directores escolares, subdirectores, decanos y administradores de contenido que se pueden encontrar en cualquier lugar".

CHSD170 superintendente Tom Amadio estuvo de acuerdo con la evaluación de Sutherland.
