CHSD170’s BPAC Hosts Hispanic Heritage Night

Chicago Heights School District 170’s Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) held its much-anticipated annual Hispanic Heritage Night on May 15 at Chicago Heights Middle School, a night brimming with excitement and anticipation, eagerly awaited by all.

The dazzling event was an evening of cultural celebration, a testament to the rich diversity of Latin American heritage within our district and community. From captivating dances to stirring songs and enlightening presentations, our students and teachers united in their love for culture, came together to pay homage to the traditions of various Latin American countries.

The event was a true reflection of the unity and collaboration of students, staff, and families from Garfield School, Roosevelt School, Washington-McKinley School, and the Chicago Heights Middle School. This event, a culmination of a successful year of learning and growing, is held each May.

“We are thrilled to invite our school community to join us in celebrating the beauty and richness of Hispanic culture,” said Shannon Vera, Director of English Learners. “This event is an opportunity to celebrate and understand the diverse backgrounds of our students.”

“This is one of our biggest BPAC events, and it is a joy to see our families react to our students’ performances,” said Juana Salazar Aldape, BPAC lead committee member.

“Parents should feel very proud of their children for embracing their culture and sharing it with our school community.”

El Comité Asesor de Padres Bilingües (BPAC, por sus siglas en inglés) del Distrito Escolar 170 de Chicago Heights celebró su muy esperada Noche Anual de la Herencia Hispana el 15 de mayo en la Escuela Intermedia Chicago Heights, una noche llena de emoción y anticipación, esperada con impaciencia por todos.

El deslumbrante evento fue una noche de celebración cultural, un testimonio de la rica diversidad de la herencia latinoamericana dentro de nuestro distrito y comunidad. Desde bailes cautivadores hasta canciones conmovedoras y presentaciones esclarecedoras, nuestros estudiantes y profesores, unidos en su amor por la cultura, se unieron para rendir homenaje a las tradiciones de varios países latinoamericanos.

El evento fue un fiel reflejo de la unidad y colaboración de los estudiantes, el personal y las familias de la Escuela Garfield, la Escuela Roosevelt, la Escuela Washington-McKinley y la Escuela Intermedia Chicago Heights. Este evento, culminación de un exitoso año de aprendizaje y crecimiento, se lleva a cabo cada mes de mayo.

"Estamos encantados de invitar a nuestra comunidad escolar a unirse a nosotros para celebrar la belleza y la riqueza de la cultura hispana", dijo Shannon Vera, directora de English Learners. "Este evento es una oportunidad para celebrar y comprender los diversos orígenes de nuestros estudiantes".

"Este es uno de nuestros eventos más grandes de BPAC, y es una alegría ver a nuestras familias reaccionar a las actuaciones de nuestros estudiantes", dijo Juana Salazar Aldape, miembro principal del comité de BPAC.
