CHSD170’s Jefferson & Kennedy Schools Present Holiday Programs

The students at CHSD170’s Jefferson and Kennedy Schools recently presented a holiday program under the direction of James Rahtjen.

During the program, the students premiered “Never Gonna Give Up,” a song written by Rahtjen.

“I wrote the song during the pandemic to urge everyone to persevere in the midst of trials,” Rahtjen said.

While Rahtjen planned on having only one class perform the song, students in his other classes also were introduced to the number and loved singing it.

“Seeing their enthusiasm, I decided to have each program end with the entire school singing that song. Children stood around the perimeter of the gym and sang the piece.

Rahtjen noted with pride that the morning programs at each school had a standing-room-only audience and the students had to stand among the parents to sing.

“That was a truly awesome experience having the students perform the world premiere of the song while standing amongst parents, family, and friends!”
